Granville girls lead weekend indoor track performers

The Granville girls track team won five events Sunday to win the team championship during the Central District Indoor Division I title.

Caitriona Sproul, Avery Ogg, Charlotte Turner and Anna Walker won the 800 relay (1:51.12), and Ogg, Turner, Walker and Annabell Bergeron won the 1,600 relay (4:22.76) for the Blue Aces. Adding individual titles were Sproul in the 400 (1:03.17), Lillian Eckels 1,600 (5:12.95) and Zoee Lehman 3,200 (11:07.63).

Runner-up finishers were Granville’s Megan Cummisky in the high jump (5-0), Sproul 55 (7.70), Ogg 400 (1:03.77), Kara Bergeron 3,200 (11:47.67) and Watkins Memorial’s Madeline Daugherty 200 (27.80).

In the boys meet, Newark’s Sean Lee won the shot put (44-6.5), and Granville’s Chris Barker won the 400 (51.09).

Patti wins pair

Colette Patti won the 55 (7.34) and 200 (26.27) for Northridge during the Central District Indoor Division II meet.

Licking Valley’s Joesy Kramer won the triple jump (29-10.5). Runner-up finishers were Valley’s Reagan Campbell in the 200 (26.60) and Northridge’s Stephanie Gilmore in the 400 (1:05.30).

In the boys meet, Heath’s Carter Higgins (49-6) took runner-up in the weight throw.

Johnson, Larson grab wins

Aria Larson in the 800 (2:37.45) and Ella Johnson 1,600 (5:26.66) each were individual winners for Granville on Saturday during the Jim Lindsey Indoor at Mount Vernon.

Johnson, Sophia Poling, Sophia Cotts and Anne Weis won the 3,200 relay (10:29.15), and Poling, Weis, Larson and Emri Hardy won the 1,600 relay (4:37.63).

In the boys meet, Granville’s Eli Kretchmar won the 800 (1:59.13).

Liesen takes runner-up

Nadia Liesen placed second in the triple jump (32-4.75) on Friday for Newark during the Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational at Ashland.

Northridge’s Colette Patti added a third in the 60 (7.90) and fourth in the 200 (26.01). Lakewood’s Addison Pound placed sixth in the 800 (2:25.65).

In the boys meet, Granville’s Eli Kretchmar, Lane Hannahs, Owen Kirkham and Cohen Stump took runner-up in the 3,200 relay (8:08.35), and Kretchmar added a sixth in the 3,200 (9:57.84) with teammate Chris Barker taking third in the 200 (22.38).

Newark’s Isaiah Potter took fifth in the 400 (50.80). Watkins Memorial’s Jaeden Ricketts also took fifth in both the 60 hurdles (8.74) and 200 (22.63), and teammate Adam Brazier added a sixth in the 800 (1:58.24).

Harvey wins pole vault

Victoria Harvey cleared 12-feet-6 to tie for the title in the pole vault Saturday for Watkins Memorial during the Rubber City Open in Akron.

Harvey is tied for the top spot in the state rankings this winter.

In the boys meet, Licking Valley’s Trevor Croak placed third in the shot put (48-0.5) and weight throw (51-1).

Heights duo wins

Jalynn Fillmore won the triple jump (39-7) and Alex Amartey the weight throw (49-10) on Sunday, leading Licking Heights during the Southeast District championships at Logan.

Fillmore also took runner-up in the long jump (21-2) as did Simi Jaf-Ogunlayi in the 400 (53.29).

HOCKEY

Johnson leads Generals

Aaron Johnson made 41 saves for the Newark Generals in a 2-0 loss to the Dayton Stealth in the championship game of the CBJ Cup at the Ice Haus.

The Generals open play in the Buckeye Cup state tournament Friday in Dublin.
