Watkins Memorial boys basketball wins at Mount Vernon
Sam Johnson and Ethan Ryan each hit a 3-pointer in the pivotal third quarter Friday, shooting the Watkins Memorial boys basketball team to a 49-43 victory at Mount Vernon.
Ryan totaled 14 points and Johnson 13 for the Warriors (12-10), who used a 15-8 advantage in the third quarter to extend their lead and clinched their third winning season in four. Chase Massie added eight points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Adkins leads charge
Johnstown cut a 19-point halftime deficit all the way to five before falling 33-26 at No. 7 Amanda-Clearcreek in a Division III second-round game.
Abigail Adkins totaled 14 points, hitting a trio of 3-pointers for the No. 12 Johnnies (15-8), who had their nine-game winning streak snapped. Lauren Baughman added 10 points and five rebounds and Michaela Perfors three assists in her final game.
GIRLS BOWLING
Heath advances
Summer Mohler’s high game of 192 and series of 537 during the Division II sectional tournament at HP Lanes led Heath to a seventh-place finish and qualification into Tuesday’s district tournament back at HP Lanes.
Kat Boyd followed with a high game of 173 and series of 432 and Kirsten Cheek 158 and 420 for the Bulldogs.
Lakewood’s Vica Pletcher at 227 and 524 and Nevaeh Wall 179 and 447 each qualified as individuals. Kaylie McCarthy’s 198 and 426 led Northridge, and Bella Webb’s 177 and 425 led Utica.
