Newark Catholic wrestling beats Amanda-Clearcreek, Zanesville

The Newark Catholic wrestling team picked up a pair of victories Wednesday night.

The Green Wave beat Amanda-Clearcreek 32-27 and Zanesville 35-24. Winning twice were Brian Luft, Rugby Meza, Brendan Sheehan, Nate Willis and Griffin Halenar.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

NC wins at Zanesville

Newark Catholic had a pair of 20-point scorers, shooting the Green Wave to 68-46 victory at Zanesville to wrap up Licking County League play.

Kylie Gibson scored 24 points, and Fini Kaiser added 21 and 12 rebounds for NC (16-4, 11-4), which went 18-for-21 from the foul line. Jada Seyfried led the Blue Devils (9-13, 8-6) with 10 points.

Heath nips Mount Vernon

Heath let a fourth-quarter lead slip away but persevered to grab a 39-37 victory in overtime at Mount Vernon.

Caroline Robertson led the Bulldogs (17-5) with 15 points. Peyton Del Cecato added 12.

Lakewood wins at Coshocton

Grace Sturgell’s late free throws clinched Lakewood’s 60-55 victory at Coshocton.

Sturgell totaled 20 points for the Lancers (8-14), who used a 25-11 edge in the third quarter to turn the tide.

Northridge edged

Visiting Grandview Heights rallied from a 25-12 halftime deficit to stun Northridge 44-43.

Darla Dorman racked up nine blocks for the Vikings (6-15). Ava Travis led a balanced attack with 12 points, and Kenzie Hannahs added 11 and Naia Moore 10.

Valley falls at home

Licking Valley could not overcome a 22-point outburst from Abbie Riddle, falling 52-35 to visiting Liberty Union.
