Super Bowl 57 Welcomes 4 New States To Legal Betting Party

Super Bowl 57 kicks off on February 12 and is poised to be the biggest one yet in terms of sports betting. More than half the country now has access to legal sports betting options. Several states will be offering Super Bowl betting odds for the first time. The additional markets could see Super Bowl LVII as the most wagered-on event ever.

New Markets To Bring In Big Super Bowl Handle

2022 saw the launch of Kansas and Maryland and so far in 2023, Ohio has gone live. Massachusetts will also have retail sportsbooks live in time for Super Bowl 57 betting. These are four new markets that were not active during last year’s Super Bowl. With most markets peaking in activity during Super Bowl weekend, one can infer how much these newcomers will succeed.

Ohio

There are no official figures for Ohio sports betting as the market is only days old. However, experts estimate $8 billion wagered in the first year. Additionally, the Cincinnati Bengals are a legitimate Super Bowl contender and will likely bring in a lot of action should they repeat as AFC Champions.

Big betting numbers are expected out of Ohio SB LVII. Local bettors are big NFL fans and will surely embrace betting on the Super Bowl for the first time.

Kansas

Kansas reported $168.5 million in bets during its first month with 96.5% of all its bets coming from online sportsbooks. During the launch, 1.5 million geolocation checks were approved within the first eight hours of going live.

Operators in Kansas can expect to see a much larger push during Super Bowl weekend. Many first-time bettors will wager during the Big Game and big sharp money bettors will wager more money. Additionally, should the Kansas City Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl, Kansas residents will flock to sportsbooks to support Mahomes and the Gang.

Kansas could potentially see one weekend’s worth of bets comparable to the entire launch month of sports betting.

Maryland

Maryland’s online market was live for only nine days in November but managed to rake in $186,084,495.57 in wagers in that time frame. Marylanders are heavy NFL fans and should the Baltimore Ravens make it to the Super Bowl, locals are expected to flood sportsbooks.

Super Bowl weekend could rake in over $100 million in bets alone from locals. The single-month betting handle is likely to be set in February due to the festivities. Maryland fans have embraced the market early and are likely to continue into Super Bowl weekend.

Massachusetts

While online won’t be live in time for SB LVII, retail operators will be live. Massachusetts could still rake in millions during Super Bowl weekend at local sportsbooks. These numbers would have been bigger if the New England Patriots managed to make the postseason.

Massachusetts is a major sports state and is expected to be a massive sports betting market when it goes live. Expect the Super Bowl to give a slight glimpse of what the market could look like.
