LEETONIA – The Leetonia school board approved a memorandum of understanding with the school employees union regarding language in the contract approved in the spring.

At its December meeting, the school board approved the MOU with the Ohio Association of Public School Employees Local #224 regarding language in the contract concerning life insurance. Schools Superintendent Dennis Dunham noted the life insurance increased from $33,000 to $50,000 for the contract, but the change was not reflected in the final version.

In other business, the board approved Izek Cloud as a custodial student assistant effective Dec. 12 at a rate of $11 per hour not to exceed 20 hours per week. Dunham noted Cloud is a student in the district’s career based intervention class, which allows students to attend class part of the day while participating in the workforce the other part.

The board also granted supplemental contracts to Frank (Butch) Gregorino as interim assistant girls basketball coach and Michelle Long as junior high robotics coach; accepted the resignations of John Protopapa as head weight room coach and Drew McLaughlin as weight room assistant; and approved Tiffany Davis as Leetonia Community Public Library trustee effective January 2023 through December 2029.

Also at the meeting, the board accepted donations of $100 from Mark and Lisa Morelli for the Perkins/Tortora Scholarship, $100 from Friends of David Olenik-Class of 1982 for the Nurse Supplemental Fund for student assistance for Christmas, $3,185 from Bob Hendricks for stadium signage and an Ohio State motto sign form Wendy Meeks.

The board’s reorganizational meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 11 in Room 204, with board President Larry Duko serving as president pro tempore.
