Roundup: Lima Senior defeats St. Francis in boys basketball


TOLEDO — Lima Senior improved to 4-1 on the season with a 53-44 Three Rivers Athletic Conference boys basketball victory Tuesday night against St. Francis.

Anthony Mosley had 20 points and Amari Addy and Jagger Hutchins each scored nine for the visiting Spartans (2-1 TRAC).

ARCADIA — The Pioneers held a 29-17 advantage at halftime. Dawson Clay had 22 points and and 14 rebounds and Landon Callahan scored 20 for Temple Christian.

Upper Scioto Valley 65 (OT)

MILLER CITY — Brendan Barlage had 26 points and Thomas Weis scored 20 for the host Wildcats. Alex Sanders (24), Drew Stephens (23) and Maddox Underwood (11) each scored in double digits for USV.

Fort Loramie 67, St. Henry 57

FORT LORAMIE — Evan Bowers had 17 points and nine rebounds and Luke Beyke and Caden Bergman had 15 and 11 points respectively for St. Henry.

Antwerp 69, Fort Jennings 46

ANTWERP — Jarron Swick had 19 points and Owen Calvelage scored 10 for the visiting Musketeers.

Van Wert 59, Ottoville 57

OTTOVILLE — Aidan Pratt (18), Luke Wessell (14) and Carson Smith (13) scored in double digits for the visiting Cougars, who recovered from a 11-7 first quarter deficit. Kellen Schlagbaum had 22 points and Michael Turnwald scored 15 for the Big Green.

DELPHOS — Lyv Lindeman had 23 points and Hannah Wiltsie scored eight for Jefferson. Camille Hovest had eight points and Avrie Unverferth scored six for Kalida.

LIMA — Leah Lefeld had 15 points and Molly Wendel scored 10 for St. Henry. Olivia Stolly (22) and Kiegh Macklin (11) reached double digits for Lima Central Catholic (3-7).

BATH TOWNSHIP — Anne Oliver had 13 points and nine rebounds, Claire Foust scored eight and Elena Oliver finished with seven rebounds for the host Wildkittens. Riley Rismiller had 12 points and eight rebounds and Becca Wenning scored five for Coldwater.

BLUFFTON — Samantha Scoles had 20 points and Ayla Grandey scored 14 for the host Pirates.

Columbus Grove 59, Elida 41

COLUMBUS GROVE — Lauryn Auchmuty (15), Sage Clement (13) and Brynn Fortman (11) each scored in double digits for Grove. Auchmuty also had eight rebounds. Addisyn Freeman had 17 points and Payton Kuhn scored eight for Elida.

DOLA — Alaina Thomas (16), Isabella Wilson (11) and Katie Good (10) each scored in double digits for Hardin Northern.

BLUFFTON — Morgan Smith (16), Kyla Columber (11) and Olivia Zender (10) scored in double digits for the host Beavers. Smith also had 11 rebounds.

Ohio Northern

ranked No. 25

ADA — The Ohio Northern women’s basketball team is ranked No. 25 in the Week 4 D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.

The Polar Bears (8-1 overall, 4-0 OAC) received 44 points in the poll and moved up one spot from last week’s poll in which they received 38 points and were listed first among teams in the “others receiving votes” category.

This marks the first time Northern has been ranked in the D3hoops.com poll since February of 2018.

The Polar Bears have won five straight games and are coming off Saturday’s 57-41 win over Capital in which they held the Comets to 20.8% shooting.

New York University is the top-ranked team in the poll, receiving 620 points and 22 of 25 first-place votes.

Transylvania (Ky.), Trinity (Texas), Christopher Newport (Va.) and Hope (Mich.) round out the top five.

WHAC honor goes

to Racers’ Haines

LIMA — The University of Northwestern Ohio’s Jada Haines has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference player of the week for the week ending Dec. 18.

Haines averaged 22.5 points per game for the week in wins against Goshen (64-63) and UC-Clermont (74-69). Her league best 23.1 points per game this season puts her fourth in the country with 277 points scored, also fourth nationally.

UNOH’s Johnson

gets recognized

LIMA — The University of Northwestern Ohio’s Biggz Johnson, a Lima Central Catholic graduate, has been voted as the WHAC player of for the week ending Dec. 18. He becomes the first Racer to win the award since Jan. 27, 2020 (Nathan Lessing).

Johnson averaged 27 points per game and shot 63% from the field during the week with wins against Ohio Christian (85-82) and Taylor (83-80). His week was highlighted by a 36-point performance against Taylor. Johnson shot 86% from the field, hitting 12 of 14 shots in the game, the program’s second best performance all-time. He matched his career high from outside knocking down seven three-pointers, the program’s fourth best, while converting all five free throw attempts.

Johnson is averaging 19.4 points per game this season and 51% from long range, both second best in the conference.
