Taliyah Holmes seals Heath girls basketball win at Northridge
Taliyah Holmes scored 10 of her 14 points from the foul line Friday, salting away the Heath girls basketball team’s 47-38 victory at Northridge (3-4, 2-4) in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.
Kerilyn Davis added 10 points and Payton DelCecato eight for the Bulldogs (8-1, 4-1), who built a 14-4 lead after one quarter.
NC wins at Lakewood
Maddie Kauble made six 3-pointers and totaled 20 points, leading Newark Catholic to a 39-20 victory at Lakewood in LCL-Cardinal play.
Fini Kaiser added eight points and Sophie Peloquin seven for the Green Wave (5-1, 5-1), who held the Lancers to 12 points through three quarters.
Addison Pound hit a pair of 3s, totaling six points for the Lancers (4-4, 2-4). Jaylie Maas added five.
Moore sets mark
Aliyah Moore made a program-record seven 3-pointers, shooting Granville to a 53-18 victory at Licking Heights in LCL-Buckeye play.
Moore totaled those 21 points to lead the unbeaten Blue Aces (7-0, 5-0). Ava Gossman added 12 points and Harper Annarino nine.
Shavona Little led the Hornets (2-6, 1-4) with five points.
Newark cruises at home
Newark buried 13 3-pointers in an 81-35 victory against visiting Central Crossing (3-5, 0-4) in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.
Jenna Shackleford racked up 17 points and four assists for the Wildcats (3-5, 2-2). Ally Carr added 16 points and five rebounds, Brie Gingras 11 points and five steals and Riley Gingerich, Sophie Bidwell, Grace Pastorius and Addison Hall six points each.
Watkins wins at home
Cameryn Wheeler’s 15 points and eight steals led Watkins Memorial to a 49-20 victory against visiting Licking Valley (2-5, 1-4) in LCL-Buckeye play.
Kalleigh Rennie added 12 points and Ella Perry seven points and five rebounds for the Warriors (6-2, 4-2).
Johnstown edged Utica
Mariah Coleman’s late free throws finished off a 42-39 victory for Johnstown (4-4, 3-3) at Utica (1-7, 0-5) in LCL-Cardinal play.
SWIMMING
Hatfield, Barnes win events
Maryn Hatfield and Savanna Barnes won a total of three events Wednesday for Newark during a quad at River View against the host Black Bears, West Muskingum and John Glenn.
Hatfield won the 200 freestyle (2:48.36) and 100 butterfly (1:24.65), and Barnes won the 200 individual medley (3:35.30). Barnes took runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (1:53.97) as did Morgan Woodruff in the 100 fly (1:45.35).
In the boys meet, Hayden Flores, Ben Jantad, Colin Vermaaten and Robert Wright won the 400 freestyle relay (5:59.07) for the Wildcats. Wright added a runner-up finish in the 200 free (2:45.93), and Jantad matched him in the 400 free (7:54.20).
