Receiver David Bell ruled out for the Cleveland Browns against Ravens
CLEVELAND − The Browns will be without rookie receiver David Bell, who was officially ruled out for Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Bell was listed as questionable by the team coming out of Thursday’s practice due to both toe and thumb injuries. However, the third-round pick from Purdue did not practice at all in the week leading up to the game.
Both injuries had been bothering Bell even before this week. He suffered the thumb injury on the first series of the Browns’ Week 13 win at Houston, and sat out the remainder of that game.
The toe injury emerged late in the week leading into last Sunday’s loss at Cincinnati. Despite missing practice on the Friday prior to the game, Bell still managed to catch three passes for 27 yards while playing 49 of the team’s 72 offensive snaps and five special-teams snaps against the Bengals.
The Browns elevated Daylen Baldwin on Friday from the practice squad to the gameday roster to help with the absence. Rookie sixth-round pick Michael Woods II and second-year pro Demetric Felton Jr. will likely see more reps at receiver as well in Bell’s absence.
Linebacker Tae Davis was also elevated from the practice squad on Friday to help with the depth at that position. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (foot) became the fourth linebacker to go on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday.
The rest of the Browns on the inactive list against the Ravens are healthy scratches. Those players are quarterback Kellen Mond, receiver Jaelon Darden, cornerback Thomas Graham Jr., defensive end Isaiah Thomas, offensive tackle Chris Hubbard and defensive tackle Tommy Togiai.
