SHELBY − Shelby picked up a nice early-season win within the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference over Marion Harding Thursday night 74-54. Shelby improved to 2-1, as Marion Harding dropped to 2-2.

Shelby’s mix-and-match defense

Many coaches like to use the “defense wins championships” moniker. Others say our offense comes from our defense. Well, the latter applied to Shelby in this one.

The Whippets jumped out to a 16-0 lead on Marion Harding, with a large part of that due to their disruptive 2-2-1 full-court press that gave the Presidents fits. When Marion Harding inbounded the ball, Shelby trapped, made sure their rotations were quick and got their hands on many balls, whether it was picking up steals or just making pass deflections.
