Ohio State has never played in the Peach Bowl
While Ohio State has played in 35 New Year’s Six bowl games across the program’s history, the Buckeyes will play in its first Peach Bowl Dec. 31 against No. 1 Georgia.
In those New Year’s Six bowl games, whether they have been associated with the College Football Playoff or not, the Buckeyes have won 21 of those 35 appearances, including nine wins at the Rose Bowl and five wins at the Fiesta Bowl.
Ohio State’s only matchup with Georgia was in the 1993 Citrus Bowl
Ohio State and Georgia have only met one other time previously: the 1993 Citrus Bowl, where the Bulldogs beat the Buckeyes 21-14.
It was Ohio State’s fourth-straight loss in a bowl game, winning only three of its 11 bowl game appearances under coach John Cooper. It was also quarterback Kirk Herbstreit’s final college game, completing eight of 24 pass attempts for 110 yards, no touchdowns, an interception and three sacks.
Robert Smith scored both of the Buckeyes’ touchdowns, recording 112 yards on 25 rushes.
Ohio State has played in six College Football Playoff games
Ohio State has a lot of experience in the College Football Playoff.
Since its inception in 2014, the Buckeyes have played in six Playoff games, and have won three games: the Sugar Bowl against Alabama and the national championship against Oregon to end the 2014 season, and the Sugar Bowl against Clemson in 2020 before falling to Alabama in the national championship.
The only SEC team Ohio State has faced in the Playoff is Alabama, while also facing Clemson three times and the Ducks once.
Ohio State’s last bowl appearance was the Rose Bowl against Utah
Ohio State finished off its 2021 season in the Rose Bowl against Utah.
After losses to Oregon and Michigan to keep them out of the College Football Playoff, the Buckeyes rallied back from a 35-21 halftime by outscoring the Utes 27-10 in the second half.
The Buckeyes used six touchdowns and 573 passing yards by quarterback C.J. Stroud to earn the program’s ninth Rose Bowl win, while wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba set an FBS bowl game record with 347 receiving yards on a school-record 15 receptions with three touchdowns. Marvin Harrison Jr. also added three touchdown receptions for an offense that set a Rose Bowl and school record with 683 total yards.
