Cedarville rallies; begins G-MAC in winning style
CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Makenna Fee and Lydia Sweeney scored 18 points apiece in leading a Lady Jacket comeback to beat Hillsdale, 89-83, at the Callan Athletic Center in the G-MAC opener for both teams.
Anne Wheeler netted 17 points while Paige Garr and Kat Weakley flipped in 11 each.
Taylor Strock matched her career-high of 12 rebounds for Cedarville, 2-3 overall.
The Chargers made eight of their first nine shots including four straight triples to blow out to a 23-10 lead in the first quarter.
The Jackets caught fire in the second period hitting 6-of-9 from deep in outscoring the visitors 28-13 for a 48-43 halftime lead.
CU lengthened the spread to 74-51 late in the third quarter with Hillsdale getting as close as four points in the final seconds.
Stinger Notes:
- In a 20-minute stretch between the first and third quarters, CU outscored Hillsdale, 64-28.
- The Jackets went 13-for-24 (.542) from deep – season-highs for three-pointers made and accuracy.
- Fee went 4-for-4 outside the arc.
- Garr, Sweeney, and Wheeler handed out four assists apiece.
- The home team controlled the boards, 42-34.
- Cedarville made just one field goal in the fourth quarter, but converted 9-of-10 free throws.
- Wheeler’s 17 points is a career high; Fee equaled her career-best set while playing at Illinois Springfield.
- The Lady Jackets lead the all-time series, 9-5.
- The rematch is January 26 at Hillsdale.
