Northridge girls basketball slips past Lakewood
The Northridge girls basketball team turned the tide Tuesday with a 17-7 edge in the third quarter, making the difference in a 54-50 victory against visiting Lakewood to open up Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.
Reese Callan scored at least four points in each quarter, totaling 19 to lead the Vikings (2-0, 1-0), who trailed 25-21 at halftime. Ava Travis added 12 points and Darla Dorman eight.
Charlee Palmer piled up 24 points to lead the Lancers (2-1, 0-1). Grace Sturgell added 10.
NC shoots past Utica
Kylie Gibson hit six of Newark Catholic’s 10 3-pointers in the Green Wave’s 54-25 victory at Utica to open up LCL-Cardinal play.
Gibson totaled 20 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Sophie Peloquin added 11 points and seven assists, Fini Kaiser 10 points and Maddie Kauble nine on a trio of 3s for NC (1-0, 1-0), which blew the game open with a 15-6 edge in the third quarter.
Abby Dickson led Utica (1-2, 0-1) with nine points. Delaney Kerstetter added eight.
Heath beats Johnstown
Caroline Robertson’s 19 points vaulted Heath (3-0, 1-0) to a 34-26 victory past visiting Johnstown to open up LCL-Cardinal play.
Lauren Baughman led the Johnnies (1-2, 0-1) with eight points, seven rebounds and three assists. Kate Hamparian added eight points.
Newark wins at Lancaster
Newark held host Lancaster (2-1, 0-1) to nine first-half points to grab a 40-27 victory to open Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.
Brie Gingras led the Wildcats (1-2, 1-0) with 10 points. Syncere Royster added nine points and Jenna Shackleford five rebounds and five steals.
Valley falls on road
Peyton Robey scored 15 points for Licking Valley in a 56-28 loss at Zanesville to open LCL-Buckeye play.
Emma Cubbison added a pair of 3-pointers for six points for the Panthers (1-2, 0-1). Jada Seyfried’s 15 points led three Blue Devils (2-0, 1-0) in double figures.
Liberty edged
Shelby Carr’s 17 points and five rebounds led Liberty Christian in a 38-26 loss to Delaware Christian in the Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League opener.
Ryleigh Christian added five points and Great Belair four steals for the Eagles (0-3, 0-1).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Granville falls on road
Granville trailed just 26-21 at halftime before host Upper Arlington pulled away for a 56-37 victory.
Dylan Niedermeyer and Rex Rader scored 13 points apiece for the Blue Aces in their season opener.
BOWLING
Lakewood girls win
Vica Pletcher rolled games of 187 and 207, leading the visiting Lakewood girls to a victory, 1,893-1,670, against New Lexington at Fiore’s.
Amy Smith added a high game of 223, Savannah Zwayer 162 and Nevaeh Wall 160 for the Lancers.
In the boys match, Koda Warren rolled a high game of 246 to lead the Lancers, who fell, 2,009-1,848, to the Panthers. Jerry Loudermilk added games of 180 and 189 and Logan Streets 187.
Heath teams roll
Bryce Holmes rolled games of 268 and 247, leading the Heath boys to a victory against Sheridan, 2,214-2,061, at Village Lanes.
Tyler Hudson added games of 195 and 193, Oliver Walton games of 199 and 184 and Payton Love a game of 177 for the Bulldogs (3-0).
In the girls match, Kayla Boyer rolled games of 203 and 198 to lead the Bulldogs (3-0) to a victory, 1,814-1,567. Summer Mohler added a high game of 160 and Alexis Martin 152.
