Newark woman flown to Columbus after fire

A Newark woman was flown to Grant Medical Center after she was rescued from a house fire Wednesday morning.

Around 5:53 a.m. Wednesday, Newark fire was called to 370 Meadowbrook Dr. for a reported house fire.

Newark Fire Chief Brandon Metzger said upon arrival, crews found a large volume of heavy black smoke and a heavy volume of fire throughout the majority of the home. Metzger said the firefighters were extremely aggressive and entered the home within minutes.

Inside the home, Metzger said firefighters found a woman in her mid-60s. Paramedics performed advanced life support and she was flown in “very critical condition” to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Metzger said the crews quick response is what saved the woman and that within another minute or two, she may not have survived.
