England vs. Iran live score: 2022 World Cup updates, as Three Lions look to

The first full day of World Cup fixtures is underway at the Khalifa International Stadium on Monday as Group B favorites (and outside contenders to win it all) England take on Iran, kicking off at 8 a.m. ET. Gareth Southgate’s side were beaten semifinalists four years ago and since then have reached the Euro 2020 final, but recent results have not been quite as impressive with the public mood somewhat sour on the national team. It will not be enough to win this one — England will be expected to do so in style.

That can often be tough against a side managed by Carlos Quieroz. The Portuguese coach, re-appointed in September, guided Team Melli to the 2014 and 2018 tournaments and in 101 matches in charge his defense have conceded just 68 goals. There will be threats to England at the other end of the pitch with Sardar Azmoun and Mehdi Taremi, two impressive forwards with European experience. The USMNT will be watching on with intrigue before their game against Wales, which kicks off at 2 p.m.

For now, you can follow all the action, analysis and highlights below in what promises to be an intriguing clash.
