ODOT to auction off excess land no longer in use in Holmes County

This building on Township Road 103 in MIllersburg will be auctioned off on Thursday, May 12, at the Excess Land Sale by ODOT.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 will be holding an auction of excess land sale featuring nearly half an acre on Township Road 103 in Millersburg on Thursday, May 12, beginning at 11 a.m.

“We’re auctioning off a radio tower site that is obsolete for us,” ODOT District 11 Real Estate Administrator Stephen Lucas said. “We’ve got two of these tower sites that we will be disposing of; one in Holmes County and one in Tuscarawas County. We are using a whole new technique and we don’t need to have the CD radio type setup that those towers were.

“Typically, what we buy, we keep forever,” Lucas continued. “Probably 99 percent of our acquisitions are for roadways and bridges. This site for communications was utilized for many years, but because of new techniques and new technology, it became obsolete, and there is no use for us keeping it any longer.”

Property value

An appraisal of the property, 0.478 acres located on Mechanic Township Road 103 in Millersburg, is $29,000. Among the items to be auctioned along with the property are a 12-foot by 20-foot concrete block building with siding, an above-ground propane tank, and a backup propane generator.

This backup propane-powered generator will be auctioned off on Thursday, May 12, by ODOT.

Everything will be sold “as is” with no warranties of any kind.

Doors will be open at 9:30 a.m. on May 12,  for review and inspections prior to bidding. The auction begins at 11 a.m. For additional details, including the ODOT Notice of Sale of Real Estate, which includes public auction instructions, contact Lucas at 330-308-7846 or email him at: [email protected].
