Ohio State Buckeye Cade Stover excited to make community impact

Ohio State's Cade Stover had one catch for seven yards against Penn State last week.

MANSFIELD – Imagine being a young boy attending a football camp where the instructors include Ohio State heroes and future NFL players like James Laurinaitis and Brian Hartline. Heck, you don’t even mind that Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson, a Heisman Trophy candidate, was one of the invitees.

Cade Stover was that young boy.

“It was at Lexington High School, run by (then) head coach B.J. Payne,” Stover said. “I might have been 9 or 10. I still have the shirt signed by all of them.”

That was a big deal.

The youth camp coming to Mansfield’s Arlin Field in June will be a bigger deal.

A huge deal.

Stover, who was Ohio’s Mr. Football for Lexington in 2018, and seven of his Ohio State teammates will be among the headliners at the Nike Football Skills Camp, set for June 6-8. Accommodations have been made for 150 campers, ages 8-18, with 35 spots still available.

The local camp was in large part the brainchild of 2013 Ontario grad Jacob Byrd. He runs NextGen Camps, which is putting on this three-day event in collaboration with Nike and NIL Management, a Columbus-based sports agency.
