? Area Gas Prices Drop 7.5 Cents + Local Banks Raise Minimum Wage

Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:

  1. The average price of gasoline in the Cincinnati-area dropped 7.5 cents per gallon in the last week, while the national average fell 3.8 cents. The average price on Monday was $3.80, 23.8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, a Boston-based tech company that tracks real-time fuel prices, said the company has seen the national average price of gasoline decline every week for the last month, however, the downturn could slow or even reverse in the days ahead if the rally in oil prices continues.   2. Downtown Cincinnati-based Fifth Third Bancorp and First Financial Bank, the two largest locally based banks, are raising their minimum wage. Fifth Third said on Monday that it is increasing its minimum wage to $20 per hour beginning July 4, up from $18. First Financial Bank raised its minimum wage to $18, up from $15.25 per hour.   3. Nearly 50 restaurants throughout the region are participating in the Greater Cincinnati Restaurant Week. The week-long event which started Monday will offer restaurant patrons three-course meals for a fixed price between $26-$46 dollars. One dollar per every meal purchased will be donated to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. (WCPO 9 Cincinnati)
