Baseball Travels to Cedarville for Weekend Set


COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Dominican baseball team will look to continue its climb up the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings with a four-game weekend set at Cedarville.

SERIES INFO

  • The Panthers and Yellow Jackets will play a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16. 
  • Both days are set for a noon start in Cedarville, Ohio. 
  • ODU and CU have met 14 times since 2014, with the Panthers holding a 13-1 edge in the series.
  • Ohio Dominican claimed a 3-1 series decision at home last spring, before adding a G-MAC Tournament victory. 

PANTHER NOTES

  • The Panthers earned two-out-of-three wins last week in a road series at Walsh. 
  • As a result, ODU is 11-18 overall and 5-10 in G-MAC play.
  • ODU went 1-3 against three of the top four teams in the G-MAC standings (Tiffin, Trevecca, Ky. Wesleyan), but earned at least a series split with the Cavs before they conclude that series on April 20.
  • Jake Daniel (Troy, Ohio) has multiple hits in four of the past five games, including all three a week ago at Walsh. The senior also posted multiple RBI performances in all three games and has a team-high six such performances this season.
  • Daniel now paces the Panthers in average, .368, while adding 18 RBI and 13 runs. 
  • David Silva (Tontogany, Ohio) has a hit in four straight games and has reached safely in 13 consecutive appearances entering the Cedarville series. The junior has raised his season average to .290 and is one of three players with 20-plus runs scored. 
  • Michael Knapp (Elyria, Ohio) has scored 20 times in his first spring with ODU, and is slashing .347/.443/.453. 
  • The Panthers have the third lowest team ERA in the G-MAC, 5.50. 
  • Both Myles Martinez (Columbus, Ohio) and Scott Rouse (Hinckley, Ohio) have made nine appearances this spring, with the latter leading the starting rotation with a 3.66 ERA. 
  • Derek Bolander (Oregon, Ohio) has a 1.42 ERA over eight appearances.
  • Brendan Hofacre (Chardon, Ohio) has earned a victory in each of his last two starts, combining to go 13.1 innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. 

ABOUT CEDARVILLE

  • Cedarville took three-of-four from Hillsdale last week, improving to 14-17 overall and 8-7 in G-MAC play.
  • The Yellow Jackets are 5-7 at home this spring, including four-game splits with conference foes Ky. Wesleyan and Malone. 
  • Cedarville was selected 10th in the 11 team G-MAC Preseason Coaches Poll, compared to ODU’s fourth predicted position.
