Yellow Jackets take series at Hillsdale
HILLSDALE, Mich. – Tanner Gillis checked Hillsdale on three hits to lead Cedarville to a 6-1 victory in the first game of a G-MAC twinbill at Simpson Field.
The Chargers avoided a four-game series sweep by the visitors with a 7-3 win in the finale.
Gillis, 4-1, tossed all seven innings of the opener. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.
Sam Punzi had two hits including a double and two RBI. Blais Hale tallied two hits, a run scored, and two RBI.
A five-run second inning and three home runs total carried Hillsdale in the nine-inning nightcap.
Cedarville outhit the hosts, 11-7, but stranded 11 runners on base and hit into three double plays.
Rotello had three hits while Kaden Shook and Chase Springmeyer added two each for the Yellow Jackets, 14-17 overall and 8-7 G-MAC.
Stinger Notes:
- Rotello and Alan Perry scored two runs apiece in the first game.
- Gillis recorded his team-high third complete game.
- Hale was hit by pitch for the tenth time.
- Rotello extended his hitting streak to 14.
- Punzi batted .462 in the series with three homers, two doubles, and eight RBI.
- Eeles remained perfect in having reached base in all 31 games so far this year.
- It’s the second straight season that CU has won three-of-four at Hillsdale.
