NEGOP names nominee to fill 1st Congressional District vacancy


The Nebraska Republican Party named their nominee for the 1st Congressional District vacancy Saturday.Mike Flood has been named the nominee after the NEGOP voted by secret paper ballot.Both candidates, Mike Flood and John Glen Weaver spoke to the executive committee of NEGOP before the vote Saturday.The final vote tallied 24-5 in favor of Flood.”I’m honored to be my party’s nominee to serve our district and advance our conservative values in Congress,” said Flood in a press release Saturday. “Together, we’re going to win the May 10th primary, the June 28th special election, and the general election in November. We’re going to keep this seat red, help fire Nancy Pelosi as speaker, and restore a check on Joe Biden and his disastrous administration.”A statement from John Glen Weaver’s campaign Saturday said, “John Glen Weaver congratulated his opponent on being nominated by the Nebraska GOP executive committee to be the republican nominee for the First Congressional District special election to fill the remaining 6 months of Representative Fortenberry’s term. John Glen’s only focus moving forward is interacting and engaging with voters every day to win their support and vote on May 10th, 2022. He looks forward to the primary on May 10th where the voters can decide that he is the best candidate to serve the people of the First Congressional District for a full term in Congress.”Flood will now run in the special election which is scheduled to be held on June 28 and will run against Nebraska Democratic Party nominee Patty Pansing Brooks to fill the 1st Congressional District vacancy.The special election is set for the same day that former Congressman Jeff Fortenberry is scheduled to be sentenced following his conviction for three felony counts for lying to the FBI about a 2016 foreign campaign contribution.
