Cincinnati Enquirer names high school athletes of week for April 8
In a vote that ended April 8, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Cincinnati Enquirer Athletes of the Week, presented by Mercy Health, from high school sports action through April 3.
The winter 2022 certificates have been mailed and should have arrived at athletic departments.

Once they reach the schools, please remember to send a picture of winning athletes with their certificates for the photo gallery to [email protected].
The Athlete of the Week voting occurs each week during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports. Send your nominations by Monday morning for this week’s high school sports action.

The winners are:
Ohio boys spring team of the week: Moeller baseball – The Crusaders have outscored their first three foes 32-6, including a 14-3 win against rival St. Xavier.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys spring team of the week: Ryle track and field – With 103 total points, Ryle claimed first place at the Holmes Stan Steidel Invitational on April 2.
Ohio girls spring team of the week: Talawanda softball – Talawanda won its first four games of the year without allowing a single run, shutting out Northwest 21-0, Colerain 12-0 and Mount Healthy twice with 17-0 and 13-0 wins.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls spring team of the week: Bishop Brossart track and field – The Lady Mustangs competed at the Stan Steidel Invitational on April 2, winning with 118 total points.
Ohio big school baseball player: Noah Prewitt, Talawanda – The junior outfielder and pitcher is hitting .667 so far this season with three extra-base hits and six runs scored. On the mound, he’s tossed four shutout, hitless innings with five strikeouts.
Ohio small school baseball player: Jack Nash, Reading – The senior went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Reading’s 7-4 win over Princeton April 2.
Northern Kentucky baseball player: Keegan Flaherty, Ryle – He went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and four RBI in Ryle’s win over Holy Cross March 30.
Boys lacrosse: Nick Tserng, Lakota East – He had five goals and three ground balls in a 14-1 win over Fairfield March 31.
Girls lacrosse: Ryan Armstrong, Anderson – The senior scored four goals and had six ground balls and four draw controls in Anderson’s 10-6 win over Little Miami.
Ohio big school softball player: Kylie Cobb, Talawanda – The freshman hit a homer, knocked in four runs and scored twice in Talawanda’s run-rule win over Mt. Healthy March 31.
Ohio small school softball player: Camrynn Linneman, Taylor – She pitched two complete games against Cooper and South Dearborn, throwing 29 strikes and giving up only one earned run. She also hit a home run.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana softball player: Rachel Shewmaker, Bishop Brossart – She was 7-for-8 with 11 RBI, a home run and three doubles in two Mustangs wins last week.
Tennis: Paul Nienaber-Daniel Miller, Oak Hills – The tandem is 2-0 this season in first doubles for the Highlanders.
Ohio boys track and field athlete: Collin Klopfstein, Williamsburg – The junior won the boys discus at the West Clermont Invitational with a throw of 122’11”.
Northern Kentucky boys track and field athlete: Kaden Gardner, Ryle – At the Stan Steidel Invitational June 2, the junior won the high jump with 6-feet-6-inches, finished second in the long jump and third in the 300 hurdles.
Ohio girls track and field athlete: Ally Colegate, Loveland – The junior took first place in the 300-meter hurdles at the West Clermont Invitational March 31 with a time of 53.12.
Northern Kentucky girls track and field athlete: Abigail Kopp, Dixie Heights – The junior won all four of her events at the Kenton County Championships March 29, the 200 and 400 meters, and the 4-x-200 and 4-x-400 relays. She helped lead the Colonels to the team title.
Boys volleyball: Brandon Wong, Moeller – Wong had a game-high 14 digs in Moeller’s straight-set win over Fenwick March 29.
