2023 5-star Kwame Evans, Jr. includes Indiana in his final five schools – The Daily

Indiana is in the final five for one of the best players in the class of 2023.

Baltimore native Kwame (K.J.) Evans, Jr. announced on his Instagram page a final five of Indiana, Kentucky, Oregon, Auburn and UCLA on Monday afternoon.  His announcement eliminates more than a dozen high majors from contention including Florida, Georgetown, Illinois, Kansas State, LSU, Memphis, Ohio State and Tennessee.

The Montverde Academy product is a high school teammate of class of 2022 Indiana signee Jalen Hood-Schifino.

Evans has taken a visit to Kentucky and has one planned for Oregon this spring.  He has previously stated he intends to visit IU this spring after his junior season at Montverde, which ended on Saturday with a GEICO Nationals title.  No IU visit has been made public as of this writing.

The 6-foot-10 Evans is a 5-star prospect and the No. 2 overall player in the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite.  IU assistant coach Kenya Hunter is the lead recruiter.

When it comes to Indiana, Evans had this to say on Monday to 247Sports national recruiting analyst Dushawn London:

“They’re a great coaching staff. I have a great relationship with Mike Woodson and Kenya Hunter. Also my teammate Jalen Hood Schifino is going up there as well so I’m going to go up there and visit. I don’t have a set date yet.”

Evans earns his high rating with a versatile set of skills that allows him to play on the perimeter on both ends of the floor despite his size.  Highlighting his outside shooting ability, Evans made three 3-pointers in the GEICO Nationals championship game.  For more background on Evans and his game, GO HERE.

According to multiple reports, Evans plans to announce a commitment after his AAU season and before his high school senior season.

IU currently has two guards committed in its 2023 class — point guard Gabe Cupps from Ohio, and combo guard Jakai Newton from Georgia.
