Ohio State football cornerback Lejond Cavazos in NCAA transfer portal
Ohio State cornerback Lejond Cavazos is entering the NCAA transfer portal.
A school spokesman confirmed on Monday that Cavazos submitted his notification to transfer, leaving the Buckeyes after two seasons.
The news came two days after Cavazos, a former composite four-star recruit in the 2020 class, was not seen by reporters during Ohio State’s practice on Student Appreciation Day.
It appeared as if Cavazos faced an uphill climb to seiz a prominent role with the Buckeyes next season.
Cameron Brown and Denzel Burke returned as starters, while Jordan Hancock and Jakailin Johnson have also made strides in the early weeks of spring practice. During his latest news conference, coach Ryan Day mentioned Hancock and Johnson among a handful of younger players who were coming along.
The Buckeyes have six remaining cornerbacks on scholarship between those four and Jyaire Brown and Ryan Turner.
Seven cornerbacks on the roster saw more playing time last fall than Cavazos, who logged 112 snaps on defense, according to Pro Football Focus. Over nine games, Cavazos finished with nine tackles and broke up a pair of passes. He redshirted in his first season.
