SISTERSVILLE — The St. Marys Community Band is set to perform this weekend at Tyler Consolidated Middle/High School Auditorium.

People from the Mid-Ohio Valley are members of the band.

Originally, the band was made up of St. Marys High School Alumni “but over the years has grown and now its members are not only from Pleasants County but also other counties from both West Virginia and Ohio,” a press release said.

Each season, band members perform 10 concerts throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley and they play a range of songs including classic masterpieces, contemporary and modern classical selections and marches.

Dave Burton, Wayne Smith and Rocky Wiseman direct the group and Matt Jennings, music teacher for Tyler County Schools, will be a guest conductor for Saturday’s concert.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted to benefit the Tyler County Middle School and High School bands.

The concert will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Tyler Consolidated Middle/High School Auditorium at 1993 Silver Knight Drive in Sistersville.

The band practices at the St. Mary Marina once a week for two hours on Tuesdays at 7 p.m.

“New musicians are eagerly accepted and no auditions are done,” the release said.

Anyone interested in joining the band can contact Christine Keeling at [email protected].
