Morning, Toledo! Let’s get you started this Wednesday with everything you need to know going on around town today.

First, today’s weather:

Very windy; warmer. High: 62 Low: 51.

Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:

  1. The entirety of Lucas County’s 911 emergency calls are covered by 7 dispatchers per shift, who say the increase in volume when the city dispatch offices merged led their colleagues to quit. A community meeting was held Monday to discuss the shortcomings in the system, including lack of training and hiring unqualified workers. (WNWO NBC 24)
  2. The Toledo City Council has approved legislation authorizing Mayor Kapszukiewicz to fund a study exploring rail travel from Toledo to Southeast Michigan; cities like Detroit, Ann Arbor and Traverse City. Councilwoman Theresa Morris is an advocate for the economic boost such transportation would have on the region. (WNWO NBC 24)
  3. Surveillance footage released by the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department and Toledo Police relating to the suspected arson at the Babcock Dairy building shows a person of interest the public may be able to identify. Tips can be made to Crime Stoppers and there is up to a $5,000 reward in place. (WTVG)
  4. There is an affordable housing problem in Toledo, but programs like Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, Local Initiatives Support Corporation, and Toledo’s emergency rental assistance program are helping. $10 million in funds from the American Rescue Plan will also go toward local housing according to Toledo Councilwoman Michele Grim. (WTVG)
  5. Muriel Michael, who initially survived a car accident that claimed the lives of three children and her partner Xavier Brown, has died from her injuries. The crash was caused when 21-year-old Zane Hull failed to yield the right of way on County Road H in Fulton County Saturday. (WTOL)

From our sponsor:

Where should you invest as a Toledo resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there’s a new investment Toledo residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.

This may surprise you, but it’s fine art.

Growing your nest egg with art isn’t new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.

Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.

Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.

The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
