Ohio State women’s basketball to return guard Taylor Mikesell
A big piece of the backcourt for the Ohio State women’s basketball team will be back next season.
Taylor Mikesell announced on Monday that she is using her additional season of collegiate eligibility to return to the Buckeyes.
“Bet on yourself, and double down,” she wrote on Twitter. “Let’s run it back Buckeye Nation. One more year.”
A Massillon native, Mikesell transferred from Oregon last offseason and turned out to be a significant pickup for Kevin McGuff’s program, helping the Buckeyes reach an NCAA Tournament regional semifinal for the first time since 2017 and win their first regular-season Big Ten championship since 2018.
Mikesell was the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 18.6 points per game, and formed a prolific duo with Jacy Sheldon. Both were first-team All-Big Ten selections.
In Friday’s season-ending 66-63 loss to Texas in the Sweet 16, Mikesell lead the Buckeyes with 19 points and hit a 3-pointer with less than two minutes left that brought them within a point of the Longhorns before the comeback attempt fell short.
Speaking with reporters after the game, the sharp-shooting guard said she planned to take a couple of weeks to settle on a decision.
It ultimately took only three days.
