Volleyball Concludes Weekend Road Trip To Ohio


The Wabash College volleyball team completed a two-game road trip to Ohio with a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match at the University of Mount Union on Saturday. The Little Giants lost the road contest by a final score of 3-0.
 
Wabash (3-16, 0-6 MCVL) took an early 2-0 lead in the first set and held the edge until Mount Union (9-9, 6-1 MCVL) evened the score at 5-5. The host Purple Raiders scored the next five points to take a 10-5 lead and held the advantage throughout the rest of the first set before claiming the 25-13 victory.
 
The Little Giants took another 2-0 lead in the second frame but were unable to maintain it. Mount Union rallied from the two-point deficit to take a 13-7 lead and an eventual 25-17 win in the second set.
 
Wabash claimed another 2-0 lead in the third set and forced five more ties after Mount Union evened the score at 2-2. The final tie came at 11-11 on a combined block by Ricky Sessions and Sam Heckman. Mount Union scored the next two points for a 13-11 lead and eventually moved in front 20-15 before closing out the set and the match with a 25-17 score in the final set.
 
Jackson Leeper and Sessions each posted eight kills to lead Wabash offensively. Leeper turned in a .353 attack percentage for the game. Will Beikes recorded 23 assists. Zachary Small led the team with seven digs. Sessions added six digs for the Little Giants.
 
Wabash closes out the 2022 season next weekend with a pair of matches in Michigan. The Little Giants take on Olivet College on Friday evening before heading to Adrian College for an 11 a.m. match on Saturday.
