Ohio Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Bowling Green

ATHENS, Ohio—The Ohio softball team (8-16, 2-3 MAC) split the doubleheader against Bowling Green (14-8, 2-3 MAC), winning the first game 2-1 and falling 5-3 in the second game. 
 
GAME ONE 
Fifth year Megan McMenemy (Westerville, Ohio) smoked a solo home run to right center field in the bottom of the first, putting Ohio ahead 1-0. Senior starting pitcher Mackensie Kohl (Corona del Mar, Calif.) was dominant in the circle, only facing 17 batters in the next five innings to preserve the Bobcats’ lead. 
 
Bowling Green struck in the top of the seventh, tying the game with an RBI double to center field. Kohl bounced back quickly, retiring the final batter of the inning with a swinging strikeout. With one out and runners on first and second, sophomore Yasmine Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) doubled down the left field line, driving in sophomore Emily Walker (Plain City, Ohio) for a walk-off 2-1 victory. 
 
Ohio registered four hits while the Falcons finished the game with five. Individually, Logan and McMenemy registered all three of the Bobcats’ hits, with Logan going 2-for-2 with one RBI, one double and one walk while McMenemy and sophomore Annalia Paoli (Marion, Pa.) both went 1-for-3. In the circle, Kohl pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and one earned run while retiring seven. 
 
GAME TWO 
Paoli led off the second inning with a triple to center field, later scoring on the throw when freshman Cici Keidel (Hilliard, Ohio) stole second. Fifth year Brooke Rice followed with an RBI single, giving Ohio a 2-0 lead. 
 
The next inning, McMenemy doubled, driving in fifth year Allie Englant (Long Beach, Calif.) for the Bobcats’ third run. Bowling Green struck in the top of the fourth, tying the game 3-3 with two RBI singles. Kohl entered the game with bases loaded and two outs, drawing a flyout to end the inning. 
 
A two-run home run to left field in the fifth put the Falcons ahead, giving them their first lead of the day. The Bobcats’ held Bowling Green to five runs, but were unable to produce more themselves, ultimately falling 5-3. 
 
Individually, McMenemy led the team, going 2-for-4 with one RBI. In the circle, senior Kylie Coffelt (Beloit, Ohio) went 3.2 innings with two strikeouts while giving up three runs on three hits. Kohl allowed two runs while striking out two in her second appearance of the day. 
 
UP NEXT 
The Bobcats are set to return to the OSF on Saturday, March 26 at 12 p.m. for their third game against Bowling Green.
