WHEELING — Ohio County Board of Education member Molly Aderholt will seek re-election in the May 10, 2022 election.

“I am honored to announce my candidacy for a second term on the Board of Education for the County of Ohio, from magisterial district three,” she said. “I am looking forward to hearing from the stakeholders in Ohio County throughout the campaign season and I believe my past board of education experience — as well as my experience as a parent, attorney, and active youth volunteer — brings a valuable perspective to our school system and its vision.”

Aderholt earned a J.D. from the West Virginia University College of Law and a B.A. from Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania.

Aderholt resides in Wheeling with her husband John and their three children: Annalese (a 2020 graduate of Wheeling Park High School), Lucy (10th grader at Wheeling Park), and Ike (8th grader at Triadelphia Middle School).

Professionally, Molly practiced law with Steptoe & Johnson, a major regional law firm from 2006 to 2016. Since 2016, she has served as in-house counsel for The Century Group, a locally headquartered commercial real estate firm.

Molly has always been engaged with kids in her communities. A high school multi-sport athlete and collegiate softball player herself, she coached high school softball, volleyball, and basketball for many years. Molly served as a youth soccer coach in Wheeling from 2010-2019. Molly has volunteered for Young Life as a leader working directly with middle and high school students for over 20 years, mentoring kids while working cooperatively with parents and school officials.

During her first term, Aderholt helped oversee the ongoing and significant $70M bond project affecting every school in the county, including three energy savings contracts.

Aderholt has continued to advocate for later school start times for grades 9-12, which have significant proven health and academic benefits for adolescents. She has worked cooperatively with the Wheeling Park Commission on various initiatives, including the new sports complex, and other creative ideas to utilize resources for the good of the community.

Aderholt has continuously advocated for a return to normal school including pragmatic adjustments to the quarantine policy and parental choice in masking. She continues to support increased compensation for teachers and supported the recent 2.5% raise for all OCS employees.

Aderholt is a proponent of innovative project based learning and related professional development for teachers and staff. She consistently reviews new and existing contracts and expenditures, seeking to ensure a wise and proper use of taxpayer dollars that reflect the mission of OCS.

She is currently a board member for Young Life Mountaineer Region, and previously served on the Steenrod PTA Executive Committee, the Local School Improvement Council (LSIC), and as a board member for the Children’s Museum of the Ohio Valley.

“I will be an advocate and voice for Ohio County students and families,” Aderholt said. “I have spent the last 20+ years investing in kids in my communities, and I am also the mother of children currently being educated by Ohio County Schools.

“I am deeply committed to seeking the best possible education and educational environment for every student, giving parents a strong voice, and providing our schools and educators with the tools they need to be effective. I believe a strong school system is an integral part of any community and its future,” she said.
