Area quartet earns All-Ohio acclaim | News, Sports, Jobs

Four area players are officially calling themselves an “All-Ohioan” today.

The Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association – via the OHSAA – announced its annual All-Ohio teams for girls basketball in Divisions III and IV Monday afternoon.

The Divisions I and II teams – as well as the Ms. Basketball honoree – will be released today.

Earning the recognition on the top three teams were Union Local’s duo of Torre Kildow and Reagan Vinskovich along with Harrison Central senior McKayla Dunkle in Division III. Monroe Central senior Kalista Friday was the only area player to earn a spot on one of the top three teams in the small-school division.

DIVISION III

Kildow – who shared the Eastern District’s Player of the Year honor – was named to the First Team All-Ohio squad for the first time in her career.

Kildow was sensational all season in helping to lead the Jets to a season of firsts, including a district and regional title, which led them to the Division III state semifinals.

En route to that team success, Kildow poured in 18.3 points a game and had a season-high total of 43 in a loss to Wheeling Park. She also pulled down 6.5 rebounds and passed out 2.3 assists per contest.

Vinskovich, meanwhile, is back on the All-Ohio listing for the third consecutive season. She was listed on the Third Team unit after another strong season. She scored 16.3 points a game, pulled down 9.7 rebounds and handed out 2.1 assists.

Vinskovich’s presence commanded double teams most of the season. Despite an injured ankle, Vinskovich scored the game-winning basket in the Jets’ regional championship victory against Fairland earlier this month.

Harrison Central senior McKayla Dunkle was a nightly double double for the Huskies. She scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds a contest.

DIVISION IV

Monroe Central senior Kalista Friday – for the first time in her career – was honored with First Team All-Ohio accolade.

Friday, who was named the Eastern District’s Co Player of the Year – helped led the Seminoles to a district championship and regional tournament appearance. She stuffed the stat sheet to a tune of 17.6 points, 6.9 assists, 6.4 steals and 5.3 rebounds a game. She also had three triple-doubles during the season.

Friday also became the school’s all-time leading female scorer during the course of the season. She finished with 1,569 points.
