Five-star WR Carnell Tate drops his Final 5, includes Ohio State

In mid August one of the Buckeyes’ very top of the board targets, wide receiver Carnell Tate from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG, announced his commitment date. Tate said he would announce his college choice on Oct. 8.

However, Tate later postponed his decision and his recruitment has continued. He recently told 247Sports Midwest recruiting analyst Allen Trieu that he will look to make his commitment around the summer, but could wait until the All-American Bowl in early January if he is not certain where he wants to go.

There has long been no doubt about Tate’s strong interest in Ohio State. He has been to Ohio State multiple times and is scheduled to be back in Columbus April 1-3. Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline as well as Ryan Day and Keenan Bailey have done a great job of recruiting Tate, and Tate has told Bucknuts the Buckeyes are one of his top choices. Also, both Crystal Ball predictions for Tate are in favor of the Buckeyes at this point.

In my feature “If I had to predict right now…” I have said my prediction for Tate would be Ohio State.

With all that in mind it is no surprise that Tate has included Ohio State in his Top 5. Tate dropped a Final 5 of Ohio State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia on his Twitter account this evening.

Tate has made multiple unofficial visits to Ohio State and Notre Dame as the Buckeyes and Fighting Irish have been waging a fierce battle for Tate’s services. His visits to Ohio State included seeing the Buckeyes play in person.

The 6-foot-2 and 185-pound Tate is a 5-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the country’s No. 21 overall prospect, the No. 3 wide receiver and the No. 7 prospect in Florida. Tate is originally from St. Rita High School in Chicago, Ill.

Tate, who plays for one of the top prep football programs in the country, has a super size and speed combination, a great burst, and is a home run threat.

Tate was absolutely spectacular in his two appearances at Ohio State camps in June. He looked like he could suit up and be a good player for the Buckeyes immediately. The fact that Tate made two appearances at Ohio State in the summer was a positive for the Buckeyes.
