Here are the top stories in Toledo today:

  1. Ronnie Nelson, at one time an executive pastor and first assistant at Greater New Psalmist Church, was convicted in the murder of 5-month-old Ava Pope on Thursday. The child was found unresponsive in the 5000 block of South Avenue in March 2020 and died at the hospital as a result of abusive head trauma. Nelson will be sentenced March 17. (WTVG)
  2. 62-year-old Marc Bickerstaff was arrested Sunday and is accused of committing several robberies over the weekend. Bickerstaff allegedly robbed the Monroe Street Huntington Bank on Friday before stealing a truck and then threatening to shoot two 7-Eleven clerks on Saturday. (WNWO NBC 24)
  3. The former Babcock Dairy building at 945 Berdan Avenue caught fire Tuesday morning around 3 AM. Toledo Fire & Rescue responded to the scene and no injuries or deaths were reported. (WNWO NBC 24)
  4. An unidentified out-of-state driver has died following a crash in Maumee early Tuesday morning. The accident occurred in the 900 block of West Wayne Street near Monclova Road and is under investigation. (WTOL)
  5. Former Toledo Councilman Gary Johnson is arguing that the criminal case against him should be tried separate and apart from the charges facing his three former colleagues: Larry Sykes, Yvonne Harper, and Tyrone Riley. All four former council members are accused of accepting bribes in exchange for Toledo City Council votes. (WTVG)

  • Toledo City Councilwoman Michele Grim is running for an Ohio State Representative seat. She cites a rise in the state’s gun violence, domestic violence, and overdose deaths as issues she wants to address. (WTOL)
  • The Toledo City Council is asking for input as it redistricts the boundary maps per the Toledo City Charter. The lines are supposed to coincide with the Census will be decided by a Reapportionment Committee. (WTVG)
  • A virtual program called “Black Women, Health, and Healing” will be presented by the Department of Women’s Studies and the Africana Studies Program at UToledo from 7-8:30 PM today. The panel will address topics such as mental health, trauma, physical health, and more.(Press Release Desk)
  • The Toledo Rockets men’s basketball team will face the Dayton Flyers at Savage Arena at 7 PM. The winner of the game will go on to face either Vanderbilt or Belmont on Saturday in the NIT. (Press Release Desk)
