Baseball Falls at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Marshall University baseball team (10-6-1) fell on the road Monday evening to the Ohio State Buckeyes (6-8), 14-2, in Columbus, Ohio.
 
Herd starting pitcher Ryan Capuano got into a jam with runners at the corners and one out in the bottom of the first. However, the righty struck out the next two Buckeyes to end the inning.
 
Ohio State’s Zach Dezenzo hit a grand slam in the bottom of the second to put the Herd at a 4-0 deficit.
 
Capuano rebounded in the bottom of the third as he struck out the side and stranded the bases loaded with Buckeyes on the bases.
 
The Ohio State bats then plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth as Marshall trailed 11-0.
 
After Marshall reliever Cam Rokisky threw a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the seventh, Drew Steelhammer launched a two-run homer to left. It was the first of his Marshall career.
 
However, OSU tallied three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
 
Daniel Carinci and Ryan Leitch each went 2-for-5 in the contest. Leitch recorded his team-leading seventh double of the season.

The Herd goes back on the road to take on the Ohio Bobcats on Wednesday in Athens, Ohio. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
