Will Hampton’s superintendent contract is renewed with Marietta City Schools

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – Will Hampton’s contract as superintendent of Marietta City Schools has officially been renewed.

Three Board of Education members voted for renewing his contract and two voted against.

It’s a vote that actually already took place in late February. However, Board President Eric Reed said one community member was concerned that board members may have broken rules by not holding a public discussion on the matter.

Reed said, that although they did not have to, for the sake of public confidence, the board rescinded the vote and voted again this week with public discussion beforehand.

Reed clarified that the board did debate the matter before the February vote but in executive session.

“…, so there was tremendous deliberation in executive session um just looking at the past, looking at the present, looking at the future of the district so yeah the community should know that we definitely put a lot of heart and effort into trying to make a decision that um made sense for the board…,” he said.

The contract will go into effect August 1st of 2022. It will last for two years.

Back in February, the Marietta teacher’s union voted no confidence in Hampton. For more context on that situation, click here.
