Beverly Steele Obituary (1935 – 2022) – Millersburg, OH

“Together Again”
Beverly Steele was born December 2, 1935 in a little house, on the family farm just north of Danville, Ohio. To Charles Meryl Kaylor and Agnes Catherine (Scholes). She was an only child and was greatly loved. Her family moved to Loudonville in her elementary years, and on to a little farm at Nashville in her second year of High School. She was a 1953 graduate of Nashville High School. Later that year she married James Dallas Steele and built a home on the Steele family farm six miles west of Millersburg. In 1955 came son, David, and in 1960, a daughter Susan.
Beverly was a meticulous homemaker. When the children were in high school she took a job at the Holmes County Recorders Office. Then she studied and got her Real Estate license and worked for Real Estate Showcase. She went to work as a receptionist at Schuler Law Firm, then to Stiemel Law. Later she worked at Sols in Berlin from 1993 until 2020. The crafters and staff always loved and enjoyed her.
Bev had many creative interests and hobbies over the years. She tended a large vegetable garden, enjoyed canning, sewing, crotchet, painting, working in flower beds, and ceramics. She was an excellent cook and lovingly prepared many meals enjoyed by her family. Bev was part of a bowling league, garden club, raised flocks of sheep, and had homing pigeons. Bev helped with the youth group and dinners at Hopewell Church and was Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. In 1991, Bev and her husband purchased 70 acres nearby where they built a large pond and put a small cabin there. It was affectionately called The Farm. The Farm was home to family events, graduation parties, their annual wedding anniversary celebrations complete with a pig roast, fishing for friends, neighbors, and family, and even a wedding site. The Farm is where innumerable hours were spent by Bev watching deer, feeding the backyard birds, walking the woods, and simply sitting quietly and enjoying nature. Observing nature was one of Bevs great joys and source of wisdom.
On June 20th, 1977, began Bevs other greatest joy in life. She became a grandma. She always said she didn’t know how to be a grandma as she didn’t have any growing up, they passed before Bev was born. Bev made her grandchildren a top priority, sewing each ones Halloween costumes, sleepovers, attending sporting events, taking each grandchild to the Indy 500 on their 16th birthday year, attending Tuba Christmas, and nurturing each one’s individual interests.
She will be missed for her kind, listening ear. Her ornery side, too. She was always thinking of the next project or task. Now her greatest job here on earth is complete.
She leaves behind a son Dave (Cindy Arnette) Steele, daughter Susie (Jr) Stutzman. Four Grandchildren, Missi (Matt) Shaner, Joe (Nicole) Stutzman, Jamie (Travis) Swartzentruber, Dallas (Sam Klepacz) Steele. A great grandson, Zak Shaner. And a soon to be born Great Granddaughter Swartzentruber. Her beloved pets, Petey an African Grey Parrot and Gertie a pet dog. She is preceded in death by her husband Jim Steele.
The family wishes to thank Dr Omran and the caring nurses and staff of Joel Pomerene Hospital. In leu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Tuscarawas Humane Society, The Ohio Bird Sanctuary, or the charity of your choice.
Friends may call from 2-4 pm Tuesday at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, Ohio. A private burial will take place at Nashville Cemetery, Nashville, Ohio.
