EKU Wins On Walk-Off Single

RICHMOND, Ky. –

Kendal Ewell poked a single through the left side with the game tied, one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Eastern Kentucky a 7-6 win over Ohio on Saturday at Earle Combs Stadium.
 
The Colonels (3-3) clinch the series victory with the win, having beaten the Bobcats 4-3 on Friday.
 
Roderick Criss II started the bottom of the ninth with a walk and Conner Davis followed with a sacrifice bunt to get the runner into scoring position with one out.  Logan Thomason was intentionally walked and Max Williams singled off the pitcher’s glove to load them up.  With a 1-1 count, Ewell ended the game with a base hit.
 
Ewell finished 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.  Will King went 2-for-4 with two driven in.  Williams had two hits and three RBIs.
 
The Bobcats (1-4) broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh.  Mason Minzey scored on a wild pitch.  Two batters later AJ Rausch brought home a run with a bunt single to make it 6-4.
 
In the bottom half of the seventh, EKU came right back and tied it up again.  Williams made it 6-6 with a bases loaded, two-run single to center.
 
Eastern Kentucky scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to tie it 4-4.  With two outs and two on, Ewell singled through the left side to score Davis.  Two batters later, King stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and tied the game with a two-run single up the middle.
 
Rese Brown started for EKU (2-4) and struck out eight batters in four and one third innings.  The sophomore allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, and walked four.  Will Brian (1-0) picked up the win after retiring one batter in the top of the ninth with two runners on base.
