Stolen semi leads police in Ohio, Indiana on chase covering over 100 miles

RIVERSIDE, Ohio — Two men in a stolen semi led police on a chase that covered more than 100 miles, ending in Indiana with the suspects in custody and the truck in flames.

Michael McGee, 26, of Dayton, and Nicholas Mingus, 29, of Ghent, Kentucky, are being held in jail in Adams County in Indiana on suspicion of attempted murder, auto theft and resisting law enforcement, WHIO Channel 7 reports.

The chase started just after midnight Tuesday in Riverside when police were notified of a stolen tractor-trailer, the Dayton Daily News reports. When officers spotted the truck, it refused to pull over. The truck went on Interstate 70 into Indiana.

Police tell WDTN Channel 2 that a passenger in the semi fired several shots at officers during the pursuit. Ohio officers used stop sticks to flatten the truck’s tires, but it continued driving.

At about 2:15 a.m., the truck crashed into a ditch in Adams County, the Daily News reports. However, the two suspects refused to get out of the truck, reports say. Indiana State Police then called in a SWAT unit.

McGee surrendered at about 5 a.m., the Daily News reports. Mingus stayed in the truck and reportedly fired shots at a SWAT vehicle, hitting its windshield. Tear gas was used to get Mingus out of the truck and he was taken into custody. The semi then caught fire and was destroyed.
