Summit Artspace to host regional high school exhibition featuring cash prizes,

AKRON, Ohio – Summit Artspace is seeking entries for Starburst, its inaugural high school art exhibition.

Participating high schools can enter up to five art works from seniors by March 4. The exhibition is free to enter and features cash prizes for first, second and third places.

A jury of high school and college visual arts educators will choose the winning entries. Jurors include Janet Baran, retired visual art educator from North Canton High School; Arnold Tunstall, gallery director of the Emily Davis Gallery at the University of Akron Myers School of Art; and Susan Yingling, retired visual and performing art educator from Miller South School for the Visual and Performing Arts.

In addition to cash prizes, the University of Akron Myers School of Art will award one $500 scholarship to a Starburst participant once the student is a confirmed art major at the college for the 2022-23 academic year.

The exhibition will run April 8 through May 21. An opening reception will be held Friday, April 8 from 5-7 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public; awards will be announced at 6 p.m.
