Canfield (Ohio) district acquires city-owned land for K-8 campus

The Canfield (Ohio) district acquired 100 acres of farmland from the city and will construct an elementary and middle school campus.

The district will use undeveloped property at Redgate Farms to replace outdated elementary and middle schools, reports WKBN-TV Channel 27 News

The district said C.H. Campbell and Hilltop elementary schools along with Canfield Middle School need to be replaced. The district said the land also has enough space for a high school in the future if needed.

In exchange, the city would take control of the district’s 100-year-old Canfield Village Middle School, parking lot and transportation garage. Under the agreement, the district would also pitch in $1 million toward the city’s plans for the facility — whether it be demolition or renovation, reports Mahoning Matters

To acquire funds to build the school, the district’s voters must pass a $107 million bond request in May.

If the bonds are approved in May, construction could be complete by fall 2025.
