UNC clinched the all-important doubles point to begin the match, with the top-ranked team of Elizabeth Scotty and Fiona Crawley cruising, 6-3. Alle Sanford and Reilly Tran earned a 6-2 win as well.
Scotty dominated in singles, taking her match 6-2, 6-0. Tran and Crawley would each win in straight sets also, taking the drama out of the match rather quickly and sealing the 4-1 decision. Anika Yarlagadda was well on her way to victory before her match was stopped.
Carolina remains undefeated in dual matches in 2022 at 8-0. The win over the Buckeyes is the team’s second straight over a ranked opponent this season, after the Tar Heels defeated Michigan last weekend. Head coach Brian Kalbas’ team will now face No. 7 Virginia in the quarterfinal round. The Tar Heels got the best of the Cavaliers twice last season, and are scheduled to play them in Chapel Hill on March 6 later this season.
