Former Ohio State Walk-On Quarterback JP Andrade Transferring to Jackson State

A former Ohio State quarterback is headed to Jackson State to play for Coach Prime.

JP Andrade, who entered the transfer portal last month after three seasons as an Ohio State walk-on, announced Wednesday that he would continue his college football career at Jackson State, where he’ll be coached by Deion Sanders.

Jackson State has gotten more attention than ever before since Sanders’ arrival at the Football Championship Subdivision school, especially since December, when Jackson State pulled off what might be the biggest upset in recruiting history by signing Travis Hunter, the No. 1 overall prospect in the recruiting class of 2022.

Now, Andrade joins that group of incoming players and goes to a school where he’ll have a better chance of earning playing time. While he never took a snap in his three years at Ohio State, Andrade had multiple scholarship offers from Division I schools out of high school, including one from a Football Bowl Subdivision school, South Alabama.

Andrade is the fourth quarterback from Ohio State’s 2021 roster to transfer to another school this offseason, joining Quinn Ewers (Texas), Jack Miller (Florida) and fellow walk-on Jagger LaRoe (Texas A&M-Commerce).

Ohio State’s quarterback roster for the 2022 season is set to consist of C.J. Stroud, Kyle McCord, Devin Brown and Mason Maggs, an incoming freshman walk-on who committed to Ohio State on Saturday.
