10 things to do in Greater Columbus the weekend of Feb. 3


Though the weather outside is frightful, the local entertainment scene is still delightful, with a weekend bursting with song, colorful art and more.

For music maniacs who like dramatic displays, spend an evening with the music of Pink Floyd, along with original video and original dance, in “Which One’s Pink?,” which runs most Thursdays and Sundays through May 26 at Shadowbox Live.

Art lovers, if you haven’t already, trek to the Columbus Museum of Art for the final weekend of “Through Vincent’s Eyes: Van Gogh and His Sources.”

Whatever you do on this wintry weekend, be sure to bundle up!

Classic Albums Live to play hits from Creedence Clearwater Revival

Classic Albums Live — a group presenting live performances of iconic rock albums — will bring to life Creedence Clearwater Revival’s 1976 record “Chronicle, Vol. 1” at 8 p.m. Feb. 5 in the Lincoln Theatre, 769 E. Long St. Expect to hear classics from the record including “Proud Mary,” “I Put a Spell On You” and “Who’ll Stop the Rain” just as they were performed on the album. Vamp Village will perform at Budd Dairy Food Hall on Feb. 4.

Music in Budd Dairy Hall on Fridays

Each Friday, diners at the Budd Dairy Food Hall, 1086 N. 4th St., can enjoy live music while they eat or sip selections from the range of menus offered in the hall. This Friday, the Italian Village venue will host Vamp Village, a jazz trio based in Greater Columbus, from 8 to 11 p.m. Feb. 4. The musicians will perform in the Main Hall. Van Gogh going, going, gone 

This weekend, the popular exhibition “Through Vincent’s Eyes: Van Gogh and His Sources” will conclude its run at the Columbus Museum of Art, 480 E. Broad St. The show, which opened in November, boasts works by Vincent van Gogh as well as the artists who influenced his work. For the final days of the show on Feb. 4-6, timed tickets will be available for slots from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. ($10, plus regular museum admission of $18, or $9 for children, students and senior citizens); extended-hour tickets will be available for entry times of 4, 4:30 and 5 p.m. ($10 only). Gifted gymnasts to perform in Buckeye Classic

Watch gymnasts tumble, balance and roll at the Buckeye Classic this weekend. The annual event will take place from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Feb. 3-6 at the Ohio Expo Center’s Celeste Center, Interstate 71 and East 17th Avenue. Former world champion gymnast and Olympic team member Chellsie Memmel will be on hand to present awards and participate in autograph sessions on Feb. 4. Masks are required. Spirituals and songs to be performed at Denison University

Denison University will host the American Spiritual Ensemble at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 in Swasey Chapel, 200 Chapel Drive, Granville. Founded more than 25 years ago, the touring ensemble features singers performing a variety of repertoire that reflects the Black experience, including spirituals, jazz music and tunes from Broadway. Shadowbox Live pays tribute to the legendary rock group Pink Floyd with an encore run of “Which One’s Pink?,” a company-created multimedia “rockumentary” of songs (“Wish You Were Here,” “Another Brick in the Wall,” “Comfortably Numb”) and albums (excerpts from “The Dark Side of the Moon”) with original video and original dance. ‘Orchids’ bursting with color

Although the weather outside lately has been cold and snowy and spring more than six weeks away, flower lovers can still see beautiful plants at the Franklin Park Conservatory and its “Orchids” exhibit. Thousands of vibrant and fragrant orchids in striking combinations and creative displays have taken over the Dorothy M. Davis Showhouse in the popular annual exhibit, which runs through March 6. Ten paintings by local artist Robert Falcone will also be featured. Tickets cost $22, or $19 for seniors 60 and older, $15 for children ages 3 to 12 and free for 2 and younger. Mickey and Minnie come to town 

The whole cast of Disney gets frozen in this entertainment spectacle as “Disney on Ice: Mickey and Friends” continues to delight audiences at Nationwide Arena, 200 W. Nationwide Blvd., with a number of shows through this weekend. Anna and Elsa of “Frozen” fame will be joined on skates by Mickey and Minnie, “Toy Story” favorites, the rest of the Disney princesses and many more. Shows take place at 7 p.m. Thursday; 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday. Masks are required for all guests ages 3 and older. Heavenly sounds to fill McConnell Arts Center

In its second concert of the 2021-2022 event series, the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra will perform its Forged in the Heavens show at 3 p.m. Sunday at the McConnell Arts Center, 777 Evening St., Worthington. This year’s Masterworks Series is themed “Building on Inspiration” and features three different concerts. A third one will be in May. Tickets to Sunday’s show cost $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Learn about nature and more during ‘Wild Ohio’

Get to know about plants and animals during “Wild Ohio,” a weekend event co-sponsored by the Ohio History Connection, the Orton Geology Museum, the Ohio Herb Center and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, among others. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 5-6 at the Ohio History Center, Interstate 71 and East 17th Avenue, listen to talks on extinct beasts, watch movies, tour the Natural History Gallery, meet worms, smell herbs and touch fossils.
