Multiple people found unconscious by Ohio hotel pool

At least 16 people – including children – received medical treatment after multiple people were found unconscious by the side of an indoor pool at an Ohio hotel on Saturday from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Police responded to a Hampton Inn in Marysville around 5:30 p.m. local time to reports of a 2-year-old girl found unconscious in the water, officials told WCMH.

While officers were responding, local 911 dispatchers received several additional calls reporting unconscious individuals near the pool area, according to Marysville Police Chief Tony Brooks.

Police said seven people were transported to local hospitals in critical condition, according to the outlet. Two others were transported and listed in stable condition. Five others checked themselves into the hospital and two were treated at the scene.

Victims, who were both adults and children, reported symptoms of a burning throat and dizziness, officials said.

Officials from the Marysville police and fire Departments requested help from neighboring municipalities and the hotel was evacuated, according to the Columbus Dispatch. 

Uninjured guests and staff left the premises and officials said Hampton Inn management made accommodations at other hotels for the displaced.

Marysville Fire Chief Jay Riley told The Columbus Dispatch that the source of Carbon monoxide was still to be determined, but all gas lines had been shut down.

More information on the incident is expected on Sunday,  Riley said.
