Sherwin-Williams marks start of construction on downtown Cleveland HQ in virtual ceremony
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Paint giant Sherwin-Williams on Friday marked the official start of construction on its downtown Cleveland headquarters with a virtual ceremony.
The livestreamed event, held in lieu of an in-person groundbreaking because of the coronavirus pandemic, featured speeches from company President and CEO John Morikis, Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, Congresswoman Shontel Brown, Council President Blaine Griffin and others.
The company plans to build a 36-story tower, five-story parking garage, two-story pavilion, and two above-ground walkways on nearly 7 acres of land west of Public Square along portions of Superior Avenue and West Third Street. In all, the new headquarters will span a million square feet.
Sherwin-Williams plans to move into its new headquarters by the end of 2024. It is also building a new research and development facility in suburban Brecksville.
