Marjorie Taylor Greene Backs JD Vance In Ohio Senate Race

OHIO — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene — an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump — endorsed Ohio author JD Vance on Tuesday, throwing her support behind the writer and lawyer in the Republican Senate primary.

Greene is a first-term congressperson from Georgia who has gained notoriety for her controversial statements, including trumpeting QAnon-fueled conspiracy theories and supporting violence against Democrats, CNN and the Hill noted. She has also become one of the most well-known figures on the political right, often voicing support for Trump.

News of Greene’s endorsement was first reported by Fox News. Greene told the outlet Vance was a “conservative warrior” and the candidate the “America First movement needs fighting for us.”

Vance is a former venture capitalist and the author of the bestselling “Hillbilly Elegy,” a memoir about growing up in southern Ohio. After initially opposing Trump’s campaign for president in 2016, Vance has radically altered his views and now supports many Trump-era policies. Scoring Greene’s endorsement could bolster his credentials with Ohio voters.

Vance is part of a crowded field of Republican candidates looking to replace Sen. Rob Portman, who announced he would not seek reelection in January 2021. Besides Vance, here are the other Republicans vying for Portman’s seat: two-time senate candidate Josh Mandel, Cleveland-area businessman Bernie Moreno, real estate developer Mike Gibbons, Matt Dolan, whose family operates the Cleveland Guardians, and former Ohio GOP Chair Jane Timken.

The Democratic field is much smaller, with longtime Rep. Tim Ryan and progressive attorney Morgan Harper the two candidates of note.
