LAKE LINDEN — Donald J. Lewis, 89, a former Copper Country resident, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

He was born on February 26, 1932, in Hubbell, to W. Allen and Bertha Lewis. He attended the local schools and graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School with the class of 1950.

Following high school, Don served in the Korean War as a Navy radar man stationed at Subic Bay Naval Base in the Philippines.

In 1959, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in accounting at the University of Detroit and worked as a corporate controller for much of his career in accounting.

On August 16, 1958, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church he was joined to Barbara C. Lewis in the sacrament of holy matrimony. Don and Barb enjoyed 63 wonderfully blessed years of marriage together and were examples of generosity and prayerfulness to their family and those around them.

His Catholic faith meant everything to him. He shared it with Barb as a gift to one another, and to all who knew and loved him. He especially had a passion for the latin mass serving as an altar server in his youth and master of ceremonies in his later years. When Don wasn’t working or serving his family, you would find him serving the church as a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus or wherever needed.

Don loved to travel, see places of religious and historical significance and meet people on those journeys. He shared many stories of traveling throughout the US, especially the times he and Barb adventured in their RVs.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, W. Allen and Bertha Lewis.

He is survived by his three children, Allen (Kristin) Lewis of Westerville, Ohio, Lisa (Dianna) Lewis of Sausalito, California, Stephanie Cahill of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A live-streamed funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis de Sales in Newark, Ohio on January 21, 2022, at 10 a.m. with Fr. David Sizemore, assisted by Deacon Eric Wright.

The wake will take place on Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schoedinger Funeral Home located at 1051 E Johnstown Rd, Gahanna, OH 43230. Services in Lake Linden are planned for May.
