Some Mid-Ohio Valley schools closing early | News, Sports, Jobs

Multiple school districts are closing early in anticipation of today’s snowfall.

Calhoun, Jackson and Roane County schools announced on their Facebook pages they will be dismissing students three hours early and canceling extracurricular activities. Gilmer, Tyler and Wirt County Schools are on a two-hour early release schedule.

Doddridge, Pleasants and Wetzel County schools are closing at 1:30 p.m.

Ritchie County is releasing elementary students at noon and middle/high school students at 12:15 p.m.

The National Weather Service is predicting daytime snowfall of between 1 and 3 inches throughout much of the region, with 1-3 inches overnight and as much as 3-5 inches in Gilmer County.

Wood County Schools released a statement this morning saying that while flurries could be seen as early as 2 p.m., heavy snow is not expected in the area until around 6 p.m. so the schedule would not be altered.

“Our transportation department is preparing for winter weather, and we urge drivers to take extra time and precautions during dismissal times as some roads could be slick,” the statement said.
