Brazilian ‘stillborn’ baby prepped for burial found to be alive


A baby declared stillborn by a Brazilian doctor was being prepared for burial at a funeral home — but was miraculously found to still be alive.

The baby boy was born three months prematurely at a home in Ariquemes in the Brazilian state of Rondonia on Dec. 27, local outlet G1 reported.

The 18-year-old mother, who hasn’t been identified, wasn’t aware she was pregnant, according to the report.

Her family claims she went to see a doctor after experiencing severe pains — but the medic sent her home.

Immediately after giving birth, the mom rushed the baby, who weighed 2 pounds, 3 ounces, to the hospital, where doctors declared him stillborn.

A funeral director, who also hasn’t been named, was called in to collect the infant at 3 a.m. Dec. 28.

He noticed the baby sigh and realized he had a heartbeat as he was preparing the body for burial, the outlet said.

The funeral director rushed the baby back to the hospital, where the infant was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit.

The current condition of the baby wasn’t immediately known and local police are investigating the ordeal.
