New Year’s closings of government and other entities in Columbus
Saturday is New Year’s Day. Because of the holiday:
• Columbus city and other local, county, state and federal government offices will be closed Friday, New Year’s Eve, in observance of the federal holiday and remain closed until Monday.
• There will be no regular mail delivery or collection Saturday. Priority Mail Express mail will be delivered Saturday in limited locations for an additional fee. Post offices will be open Friday/New Year’s Eve and there will be regular mail delivery and collection.
• Parking meters in Columbus will be free on Saturday, but parking restrictions will remain at some meters, such as in residential parking permit areas and zones marked for valets, taxis and loadings. Motorists are advised to read signs. The Columbus Parking Violations Bureau and Right-of-Way Permits Office will be closed Friday for the government holiday.
• There will be no Columbus trash collection on Friday. For residents assigned a collection color, trash pickup will rotate forward by one regular business weekday until the next holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 17.
Rumpke recycling and yard waste collections will run as regularly scheduled this week, including Friday/New Year’s Eve. Households should set out their recycling container and yard waste by 6 a.m. on Friday.
• All Columbus Metropolitan Library locations will be closed Friday and Saturday. Due to a staffing shortage, the library system is also closed on Sundays through at least Jan. 9.
• The Central Ohio Transit Authority will operate on a regular schedule Saturday. COTA’s customer service call center, as well as the pass sales office at 33 N. High St., will be closed Saturday.
• Ohio State University campus offices will be closed Friday through Sunday and reopen Monday, Jan. 3. There are no classes; classes will resume Jan. 10. Columbus State Community College campus offices will be closed Saturday through Jan. 2, reopening Jan. 3. There are no classes; spring semester classes will begin Jan. 17.
