Composite five-star Marvel Allen breaks down his top 8 schools

Composite five-star Marvel Allen has released his top 8 schools. The 6-foot-4 point guard has named Alabama, Arizona State, Georgia, Kansas, LSU, Maryland, Memphis and Ohio State. Allen has already taken visits to Georgia and LSU.

“These schools made it because they’ve been keeping in contact the most and these are the top 8 schools where I can fit in the best,” he said. “I would say my recruitment is still open but these are the top 8 schools.”

Allen broke down his top 8 schools with 247Sports.

Alabama: “I like how they let their guards rock out. They had Collin Sexton, John Petty and JD Davison now. They’re known for letting their guards rock out. They play fast, get up and down and that’s the way I love to play.”

Arizona State: “Coach Hurley is a great coach and they have a great staff. Coach Justus has sent players to the league, also coach Justus is a great assistant who was under coach Calapari so he has a lot of knowledge. They also develop players.”

Georgia: “When I took my official visit they had a great coaching staff. Coach Crean was really into what he was doing and they’ll let you rock out over there. It could be like an Anthony Edwards situation where you’re the man and they let you rock out.”

Kansas: “It’s Kansas. The history and they had guards that they sent to the league. I’ll probably visit them in the future if it gets down to that point, but I know they’re recruiting a lot of guards. I just got to see especially with my schedule. In general I haven’t been able to go on a lot of visits because of games and practices.”

LSU: Another great visit and great coaching staff. They sent guards to the league recently like Cam Thomas. I like how in their system they play freely, play crazy defense and it fits my playstyle.”

Maryland: “Coach Manning is the head coach now and was a first round first pick so knows what it takes. He’s been at the highest level and puts players in position to be great.”

Memphis: “”They got an NBA coaching staff so I feel like that would be another great situation. The Coach has been there on the highest level so he can put you in the best position to make it to the next level. Penny was a point guard that played my position and the staff he has around him has connections. They’ve been around and know what it takes and how to get there.”

Ohio State: “They were talking about transferring their system to being dominant to guards which got my attention. They were talking about how they want to run a three guard system with a main scoring point guard and shooters. I know that I’m a scoring point guard so I looked into that and added them to the list.”

As of right now, Allen does not have a timetable for a decision, but knows what the main factors in his decision will be.

“Im dropping this top 8 and seeing where my recruitment goes from there,” he said. “I’m big on relationships and big on coaches talking to my parents and my family because it’s their decision as well. We also want to hear from the head coach . It’s good to hear from the assistant coaches but when the head coach reaches out to you it shows that they want you for real. I also want to play right away.”
